This rifle originated as a rare Trials Model (No A0744) manufactured at RSAF Enfield in 1933, and distinctive in having a magazine cutoff. Held in reserve due to the large number of SMLE Mk III rifles held in stock before Dunkirk . In 1940 many of these rifles were converted for Sniper use by fitting the No 32 Mk I Telescopic sight. This example has been further updated with a Mk 3 sight made by Cooke, Troughton and Sims, and a cheek piece fitted to the butt. .
